My first year in New York City for the Tony Awards. I wanted to make sure I didn’t completely ignore that. I decided to check out the Times Square pre-show and screening area earlier today. Soon after arriving, I decided to leave. I thought there would be a lot more to it then what there was. No big deal, it was a rainy day. I made my way back to the F train which is right next to Radio City. I did the teenage fan girl thing and watched the attendees arrive on the red carpet. I had a pretty decent spot along the fence, but this foreign lady behind me kept pushing her chest in to me and saying “excuse me” as if she wanted me to move. I WAS THERE FIRST! Some people! Throughout the horrid weather, annoying crowds and a slow shutter speed, I was able to get a few of the following crown jewel photos:

Ms. Menzel got out of the wrong side of the car, most people got out facing the red carpet and she got out facing the crowd. I think it was intentional. I got a really good in-person visual. You can see her elegant golden back above.

I saw a lot of Glee stars! Yes, take a second. Awe. So cute. Matthew Morrison pulled an Idina and got of the car towards the crowd. Unfortunately, I am short and not as strong as a teenage girl so most of my photos are horrible. My Glee photos are blurry. I was literally trying to not fall over. I got a pretty good one of Lea Michele and Jonathan Groff though:

Last but not least, my friend Kady Chambers was a seat filler at the Tonys. She was supposed to hook me up with that but forgot! She did it on purpose – she got to be on TV for a hot second!

That’s about it. Overall, not too shabby. It for sure beat last year. Too bad the show isn’t as good as last. Green Day rocked the opening and I’m hoping the remaining acts are just as good.

With the tagline of “A biting comedy for the underdog in all of us,” Glee has some high promises for those of us that have actually lived through the world of high school musicals. The cast consists of Broadway veterans such as Lea Michele (Spring Awakening) and Matthew Morrison (Hairspray) who can contribute that sense of genuine experience to the overall feel of the show.

In the pilot episode, teacher Will Schuester returns to his alma mater and finds himself taking over the sponsorship of “Glee” club. Right off the bat, it is not hidden that their performance quality is rather less than perfect. Through a series of trials and tribulations, we soon find the kids gleaming in their talent – which is also the one thing that binds this group together.

Though I am expecting this show to be full of cheesy drama musical fun, that is the one thing that I am actually looking forward to. It’s not a High School Musical, throw this in your face, type of production. I expect a quality scripted program with underlying themes that will provoke thought and bring me back to the time where I faced the same.

Coming from a community where musical theater is rivaled amongst local high schools, it is nice to see a show that truly focuses on the underdogs of the situation. My high school never had that star-quality production that a lot of schools see today, but we had a log of fun and got a lot more out of it then a sense of “winning”. I feel like this is a show that I could watch with my friends, seeing as the characters are living at the exact time when we all became close.

So yes, Glee seems to touch home with me and I hope that it will continue to do so in the coming months. If you have a good 45 minutes, view the pilot embedded below.

A tale as old as time. Maybe. If I was father time, I’d be pretty upset to be associated with Beauty and the Beast. I just saw PMT’s recent rendition of this favorite childhood classic. To be honest, I just don’t care for the show. It’s too cute for its own good and brings along with it screaming toddlers. I knew the lead actress who performed very well, but beyond her, nothing really grabbed my attention. I always feel bad saying that I don’t like this show because it holds a place in the hearts of many people. I didn’t watch it when I was younger so I don’t have that tie. So, this was more than likely my last time seeing this show. Sorry, but this is one rose that never stole my heart.
